About Golden Tote

Background Info.

Golden Tote is a fashion subscription box founded by designers Sarah Becker and Sarah Sweeney.  Both Sarahs are also the owners of the Puella clothing line, and their items can be found at Anthropologie.  Golden Tote offers a variety of different designer/boutique clothing items.

To be honest my absolute favorite subscription box is Golden Tote, which I barely started ordering in February 2014.  I've ordered their tote every month this year except March.  My closet is definitely thanking me for the much needed make-over (however my wallet disagrees with my closet).

Here's how Golden Tote works:

1. $49 Tote: You receive 2-3 items. You choose 1 item and the rest are a surprise. 
2. $149 Tote: You receive 5-7 items. You choose 2 items and the rest are a surprise.
3. Purchase boutique items for their retail price. 

With Golden Tote, you create a style profile based on what sizes clothing you wear, your age, things you won't wear and pre-picked styling photos.  You end up paying about $25 per item you purchase, plus shipping and handling ($7.99).  Also, if you live in California you'll have to pay sales tax on the items.  I live in CA so the $149 tote costs me $168.13 and the $49 tote costs $58.13 (shipping & handling and sales tax included).  As an added bonus, you can also purchase other boutique items to add to your tote at a discounted price in checkout.

One negative part of this type of subscription box is that Golden Tote is an all or nothing deal.  Once you receive your tote you must decide whether or not you'd like to keep everything or send everything back.  You cannot pick and choose what you like and send back the rest.  However, you can choose to regift the items that don't work for you or you can join the Golden Tote Trading Group on Facebook.  Here you can put your items up For Sale Or Trade (FSOT) and pick up some other items you didn't get.  I've made several trades and purchases myself and find this works great!  If you decide to return everything you must also pay for the return shipping.

Golden Tote sales start the first monday of every month at 9:00am Pacific Time.  The sale is like a flash sale -- until Golden Tote updates their website to hold items in your cart.  I highly suggest ordering right at 9:00 to get the items that you want, some items sell out as fast.

Referral System

Golden Tote does have a referral system where you receive $10.00 in credit once someone you refer buys their first tote (you only receive credit once).  You receive your own unique code that you can share via email, facebook, and twitter.  I even created my own "business cards" with a QR code and the link to hand out to people I meet. (Note: In order to receive referral credit, a person must use your referral link, create an account, and purchase a tote all in the same session. If they do not purchase a tote after using your referral link, you will not receive credit. One of the major things I think GT could improve on)

In the future, Golden Tote also hopes to incorporate a rewards system for members based on tote purchases.
